APAC ANNUAL GALA HONORS ROY DAMRON

Aloha Performing Arts Company will hold its fourth annual fundraising gala from 6 to 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 6, at its home, the historic Aloha Theatre in Kainaliu. This year the event is titled "APAC Salutes Roy Damron and Old Hollywood." Damron is a longtime Kona resident and APAC supporter, and will be celebrating his 90th birthday later in the month. He has had an extensive career in film and television as well as theatre and dance. When guests arrive at 6:00 p.m., they will be treated to film clips from his career. A silent auction will feature a diverse array of items including dolphin and other maritime adventures, hotel stays, antiques, gift certificates to various local establishments, and one of a kind pieces of art such as jewelry, sculpture, photography, drawings and paintings. This will be an elegant evening, featuring catered gourmet food, wine, and beer, as well entertainment with a live orchestra under the direction of Dale Ross. After dining, guests will be treated to Act One of the live entertainment: a sneak preview of the next season, with volunteer performers offering scenes and songs from APAC's upcoming 25th season of mainstage theatre. After an intermission break to finish bidding on silent auction items, a live auction will be presented, with a short list of items, including a technical upgrade of the theatre. Act Two of the live entertainment will then commence, showcasing numbers from old Hollywood movies in which Damron has appeared, such as "Showboat," "My Fair Lady," and "South Pacific." The act will conclude with a brief personal appearance by Damron and his wife, Reni. While bidders check out and claim their purchased items, the evening will round out with onstage dancing and a video of Damron testimonial interviews. Admission to "APAC Salutes Roy Damron and Old Hollywood" is $75, and tickets may be purchased by phone at 322-9924 Monday through Thursday, or online at AlohaTheatre.com. For more information, call 322-9924.
