Aloha Performing Arts Company has announced its request for new, unpublished and unproduced scripts for its 17th annual Original Play Festival, which will be presented August 18 through 21, 2010 at the Aloha Theatre in Kainaliu, Hawaii. Scripts of any length and on any subject will be accepted through postmark date May 1, 2010.

• Entries must be:
  • Typewritten
  • Bound
  • Sequentially numbered pages
• 3 hardcopies and one electronic copy on CD are required to expedite selection committee's evaluation process
• Each copy of the script must contain:
  • A list of characters
  • A brief description of the play
• Scripts should not contain the playwright's name.
• One separate cover sheet with the title of the play and the playwright's name, address, phone numbers, and email address must be included, unattached to the bound scripts.
• Musical entries must be accompanied by three sets of performance quality CDs. Each set must contain all the songs with voice tracks, as well as all of the songs with accompaniment only tracks.

Plays selected will be mounted as staged readings, with minimal rehearsal, simple technical presentation, and actors holding scripts. All entry materials should be sent to: APAC OPF XVII, P.O. Box 794, Kealakekua, HI 96750. The committee's official selections will be made by mid June; notifications will be sent by late June; auditions for actor/readers will be held in early July; rehearsals will be conducted from mid July through mid August, and the festival will be presented Wednesday through Saturday evenings, August 18 through 21, 2010. A wrap up discussion and celebration will be held Sunday afternoon, August 22, at which time the "Opie" award will be presented to the people's choice of best script of the festival. The Opie award winning play will be presented to APAC's season planning Kokua committee for consideration for possible inclusion in a future mainstage season.
