Last year, more than 4,000 V-Day benefits took place around the world raising funds and awareness toward ending violence against women. Since 1998, V-Day and these events have raised more than $60 million for local beneficiaries working to end violence against women and girls. Kailua-Kona joined this global movement as part of the V-Day 2009 campaign with a sold-out benefit for Child and Family Service of Hawaii raising thousands of dollars for the West Hawaii Domestic Abuse Shelter. This year’s event is sponsored by Soroptimist International of Kona to raise funds for the same shelter.
The Tombomb Collective and Soroptimist International of Kona will present the benefit production in Kailua-Kona. The show will be produced and directed by Tombomb resident artist and actress Tiffany Rose Brown, and features volunteer activists and actresses from the community. Proceeds directly benefit Soroptimist’s ongoing support of Child and Family Service programs in West Hawaii that help prevent and educate against domestic violence and protect and heal the women and children of the Big Island who are survivors of abuse.
